DSV go live with ATMS across the UK and Ireland

Leading European logistics company - DSV - has gone live with ATMS's StockTrack PLUS (STP) at its operations in Thrapston and Dublin.

DSV reviewed its systems when it extended its UK headquarters in Thrapston and selected Birmingham-based ATMS plc as its warehouse management system  supplier due to the company's flexibility to meet the specialist needs of its clients and the rich functionality of the STP system.

Derek Gibson, logistics director for DSV, said: "Our customers are looking for a complete end-to-end service, and it is vital they feel confident that we have the systems in place to take care of their goods from the moment it becomes our responsibility until its safe delivery to their client."

The first stage of the project was to implement the StockTrack PLUS system in the new 10,000 pallet capacity warehouse extension in Thrapston for the storage and order fulfilment of china, glass and tableware. Due to the delicate nature of the product, challenges included ensuring items were correctly located on receipt at the warehouse which would enable the heaviest items to be picked first. The system also needs to allow for carton and loose item picks and to be able to produce a suitably detailed contents list for each outbound pallet.

The second stage of the implementation was to roll out the STP system to DSV's Dublin logistics centre for a customer handling printed forms and documents for banks, building societies and insurance companies.
Mr Gibson added: "In addition to handling the physical movement of goods we need to offer our clients clear visibility as to the status of orders at any time, and full traceability of items that have passed through our hands. With the ATMS system in place we can show them that DSV is fully accountable and can provide the assurance they require."

With the first two phases successfully up and running, the next stage is to extend the system in to the distribution of footwear - which is a major part of ABX Logistics' business.

Stephen Cross, managing director of ATMS plc, said: "StockTrack PLUS is already widely used in both the apparel and corporate-wear industries and has proven ability to pick by style/colour/style combinations, and to handle pre-packed items. In the case of DSV this means ensuring that products arriving on site can be quickly unloaded, checked and located in a transit warehouse for cross-docking or movement into bulk or picking locations.

"With high volumes of fast moving products continually being received, StockTrack PLUS will optimise the flow of goods and provide accurate and timely information using the latest RF technology."
